Access levels
When you invite someone to a notebook, you choose their access level:- Viewer: can read sources and use the AI chat, but cannot add or remove sources, rename the notebook, or change any settings.
- Editor: can add and remove sources, rename the notebook, and use all AI features—the same capabilities as the notebook owner.
How to share a notebook
Open your notebook
Go to notebooklm.google.com and open the notebook you want to share.
Enter email addresses
Type the email address or addresses of the people you want to invite. Each person must have a Google Account.
Change or revoke access
To update someone’s role or remove their access, return to the Share settings for the notebook. Find the person in the list, then either change their role using the dropdown or click Remove to revoke access entirely. Changes take effect immediately. What shared users see
- Sources: all sources in the notebook are visible to every person with access—viewers and editors alike.
- Chat history: each user’s chat conversations are private. You cannot see another person’s chat history, and they cannot see yours.
- Notebook Guide outputs: generated content such as study guides, briefing docs, and audio overviews is shared and visible to all users with access.
All invitees must have a Google Account and must be in a region where NotebookLM is available. If someone cannot access the notebook after receiving an invitation, ask them to confirm they are signed in to the correct Google Account and that NotebookLM is available in their country.
